Statement of Intent

Our intention is that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, make excellent progress and achieve highly across all areas of the curriculum. During their time at Woolhampton, we aim to support every pupil in ‘learning to be the best they can be’ – academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Our Pupil Premium (PP) strategy focuses on supporting disadvantaged pupils to achieve these high expectations, including those who are already high attaining.  We recognise that not all pupils who attract PP funding are disadvantaged, and not all disadvantaged pupils attracted PP funding.   We therefore use PP funding to address barriers that have the greatest impact on educational outcomes and to accelerate progress and raise attainment.   We employed a range of strategies to meet the challenges faced by our disadvantaged pupils, including targeted interventions that meet individual needs and whole-school approaches that particularly benefit disadvantaged pupils, such as high-quality teaching.

We recognise that disadvantage affects pupils differently. Our approach is therefore informed by robust diagnostic assessment and our knowledge of individual pupils, rather than assumptions about the impact of disadvantage. Our teaching and learning approaches are informed by current educational research, including evidence and guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), alongside our professional knowledge and understanding of our pupils.

High-quality teaching is at the heart of our strategy, complemented by targeted academic support and wider approaches. We aim to identify and address barriers early, provide appropriate challenge and support, and ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to succeed. We also consider the needs of other vulnerable pupils, including those with a social worker and young carers.

We recognise that pupils’ social and emotional wellbeing can have a significant impact on their engagement, readiness to learn and academic success. As a result, our strategy includes appropriate support to meet these needs and remove barriers to learning.

Our approach is evidence-informed, responsive and regularly evaluated. We will:

• maintain high expectations and provide appropriate challenge for disadvantaged pupils;
• identify and address barriers to learning and progress as early as possible;
• use assessment to identify individual needs and target support effectively;
• ensure all pupils have equal access to a high quality curriculum and wider educational opportunities;
• support pupils’ social and emotional needs where these present barriers to learning;
• embed a therapeutic approach to behaviour that seeks to understand and respond to underlying needs while maintaining high expectations and consistent boundaries;
• monitor the impact of our approaches and adapt provision where necessary.

Pupil Premium Strategy Statement (PPSS)

When the number eligible pupils exceeds five, the school will publish a Pupil Premium Strategy Statement outlining how grant is spent.   As we have a low number of pupils in receipt of PP funding we need to maintain confidentiality and therefore our PPSS is not published on our website.
