Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome from the Headteacher

April 2018

This is a great opportunity to introduce myself, as this very exciting journey begins at Woolhampton CE Primary School.

After training at Reading University studying primary education and art, I worked in a West Berkshire Primary School for eleven years. Here, I was fortunate enough to work with many inspirational teachers and leaders; building a strong foundation at the very beginning of my career.

Within my second year I became art leader; an area of the curriculum I am passionate about. Both indoor and outdoor experiences of art became and integral part of our curriculum. Within months, the school became full of exhibitions of children's paintings, printings, drawings, sculptures and textiles.

The following year I became a mentor for NQT's; this was the beginning of my love for supporting teachers. Since then I have coached teachers and leaders under the role of Leading teacher and a Specialist Leader of Education in both West Berkshire and Bracknell Forest schools. I have also delivered lectures at Reading University for student teachers on the BAed primary course.

My experience of leading English and Maths in schools has given me a real understanding of ways in which to support children's learning.

After a short period of time I was given a team leader role. The most enjoyable aspect of this role was leading a team of teachers when creating the annual school production; I love the music, dance and drama involved in this. The team work that brought the show together is vital for a success.

I was then promoted; I became the assistant headteacher. In this role I worked very closely with the deputy and headteacher - looking at a more strategic approach to moving the school forward.

More recently, I was employed as a deputy headteacher and a SENDCo at a school in Sandhurst. This was a steep learning curve - a new role, a new school and a different team t manage and new children to get to know. All valuable learning experiences which I am grateful for.

My drive for excellence comes from a passion to help children gain the tools they need to become keen and effective learners. I have a strong desire for children to build positive learning behaviours so they seek all learning opportunities in life. Helping children develop themselves academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually is a rewarding experience.

Now as the next part of my story commences, I feel honoured to be welcomed as the headteacher at Woolhampton CE Primary School.
