Phonics and early reading

We teach Phonics using the Letters and Sounds Scheme and use a variety of reading books from Oxford Reading Tree, Songbirds, Dandelion Readers and Pearson's Bug Club to ensure we have a multitude of books to encourage and develop reading skills.

Daily phonics is taught throughout Early Years and KS1 and phonics intervention is taught where necessary in KS2.  Phonics is taught in a variety of fun and engaging ways which are designed to appeal to the learning styles of our younger learners.    Reading is key priority area throughout the whole school and we are currently having a big drive to promote reading for pleasure.  We are proud of our dedicated non-fiction library which contains an extensive range of books for use throughout the school.  Each class also has its own fiction library from which children can select their own books to take home read each night.
